Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy,
to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God
this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans 12:1 (NIV)
The purpose of the Worship Ministry is to serve God by encouraging and empowering the family of Faith Community Church to truly worship God with elevated passion, affection and priority. We believe that regular worship together will transform us to become more like Jesus (Rom. 8:29), knowing that we inevitably imitate and follow that which we esteem most highly.
Worship is to be a way of life, not a weekly event. True worship involves transformation (Romans 12:2) which spills over in worship, which crescendos throughout the week. Our weekly times of corporate worship together should be a celebration and culmination of worship that has taken place all throughout the week.
We want our worship to be...
1. God-centered -- We seek to focus our corporate worship entirely on God as a person – Father, Son, and Spirit – and God’s redemptive work. The ultimate aim is for God to be glorified in our affections as we are led into a corporate delight, enjoyment and fear of God.
2. God-empowered -- Knowing that nothing of eternal value will happen in our own strength, we pray for the God's presence and power in planning and leading.
3. Bible-based and Bible-saturated -- We desire that the content of our singing and praying and preaching conform to the truth of Scripture. God's Word should be woven through all we do in corporate worship.
4. Genuine -- We don’t want to put on a show. We want to come to God with who we are (sinners saved by grace) and give him all that we have.
5. Celebrative and Reflective -- We want our times of corporate worship to communicate that fact that our message is Good News, while also creating time and space for people to reflect on the goodness of God.
6. Excellent -- We seek to sing and play in such a way that people's attention will not be diverted from the central focus on God by shoddy ministry nor by excessive finesse, elegance or refinement. Natural, undistracting excellence will let the truth and beauty of God shine through.
7. Catalystic -- We pray that our corporate time of worship will be a catalyst for individual worship all week long.
Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
Psalm 95:1-2 (NIV)
